Key points
- Google's Nov. 5 Small Business Bulletin says Workspace accounts can now use Gemini's Business Profile tools, but the help page as of Nov. 6 still requires a personal Google Account.
- Linking is still limited to owners or managers of a single verified profile, and only through the Gemini web app.
- A Message button now sits next to Call on Google Maps listings on Android and iOS for profiles with chat set up.
- Google's help page no longer lists the EEA and U.K. as unsupported, a change from an Oct. 13 archived version.
Why it matters for marketers: Agencies and multi-location brands still can't manage client profiles through Gemini, and the more prominent Message button makes unmonitored chat links a visible customer-service risk.
Google says businesses that manage a Business Profile through a Google Workspace account are getting access to Gemini's profile tools. Lisa Landsman, Google's Head of Industry Engagement & SMB Success, posted the news in the Business Profile Community on Nov. 5. Workspace admins must first enable Gemini app access in the Admin console before employees can link a profile.
The documentation doesn't yet match. As of Nov. 6, Google's help page says owners must sign in with a personal Google Account and that the feature isn't available with work or school accounts "for now." The page also dropped the earlier exclusion for the European Economic Area and the U.K., which was listed in an Oct. 13 archived version. Google's bulletin doesn't address regions or languages.
The same bulletin says businesses with chat set up now show a Message button next to Call on Google Maps listings on Android and iOS. Chat can route to WhatsApp or text, and Google says a profile with both shows only text. Google also added a plain-language Generate hours tool and options for dietary menu labels and appeal evidence uploads.
For marketers, the practical issue is the Message button. A dead link or unmonitored inbox now occupies a top spot on the listing. Agencies should note that Gemini linking still works only for someone managing a single verified profile, so it won't cover multiple client accounts under one login.
Before the holiday rush, test the chat link on every profile you manage. Then watch Google's Gemini help page for changes to the personal-account rule or the one-profile limit, since the bulletin gives no date for full Workspace rollout.
