Key points
- Argon is live today in the Gemini app and AI Mode for Pro and Ultra subscribers; Antigravity and AI Studio access is limited to Ultra, per Ars Technica.
- API rates are introductory: input costs $2 per million tokens, output $10. Per Ars Technica, they double on November 30.
- Google says Argon ranks first on the Vals Index, which covers finance, coding, legal and tax work.
- Google is offering 10,000 scientists a free six-month top Antigravity tier, with applications open and selection required.
Why it matters for marketers: Teams can test a new frontier model today, but intro pricing ends November 30 and access varies by plan, so budgets and workflow plans need that date in mind.
Google has begun rolling out Gemini 4 Argon, its newest frontier model, after teasing it a few weeks ago. Developers and enterprises can reach it through the API, while consumers get it in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search if they pay for Pro or Ultra. Google says it ranks first on the Vals Index and outperforms rival models on a range of benchmarks. Those results are the company's own claims.
Access is uneven. Ars Technica reports that Antigravity and AI Studio are limited to Ultra subscribers, and that Google has not said when other tiers might get Argon. The Verge notes it is unclear whether Plus or free users will ever get it. Google is keeping Gemini 3.1 Pro available for now, according to Ars Technica.
For marketers and content teams, the pitch is better writing and professional workflows. Google says Argon follows style instructions more closely than earlier Gemini models, hedges less and avoids clichés. One demo has it turning a folder of project files into a client proposal deck, then emailing it and setting up a recurring workflow for later requests.
Cost is the planning issue. The launch rates are low compared with rivals, according to The Verge, but Ars Technica says they double on November 30. The Verge also cautions that per-token price does not guarantee lower real costs, since models use different token counts for the same task.
Before building anything on Argon, run your own prompts on brand voice, accuracy and token use, and model the higher post-November rates. Also check which plan your team needs for agentic tools.
